For Paul's birthday, the kids and I decided to get him his first fishing pole. And somehow the kids talked me into getting them their own kids poles as well. ;) Immediately after opening his gifts, the kids were ready to try them out! First, Paul had to go online to get himself an Iowa fishing license.
Then, he had to get everything set up, which took longer than the kids could nearly handle. Finally, we were ready to go. The City of Coralville has done some recent work on all the trail systems around our area which now allows us to walk to a very nearby pond stocked with fish.
The kids were very excited!
We had some very early luck! Not even 30 seconds after casting out Ruby's line, they felt a tug...
...and reeled it in!
Ruby and daddy caught a blue gill! It was actually pretty good size! Maybe around 5-6 inches! Although Paul likes to exaggerate and say it was about 10 inches! Not quite ;)
Ruby thought it was awesome but did not want to touch it!
Then it was Jace's turn. We had to wait quite a bit longer...
But he finally caught one as well! Jace and daddy caught a 4 inch sun fish! It was very pretty! He didn't really want to touch it either, but at least he held the line for a picture!
We fished for awhile longer. We had plenty of bites, but didn't have any more catches...
...which could've been the result of Jace finding rocks to throw in. Not exactly ideal for catching fish!
Pretty sure this kid could throw rocks in all day. Walking to the pond is a favorite activity now...just to throw rocks in!
Annie was also along for the fishing adventure.
She slept the entire time. ;)
Happy Birthday to one of the best dads around who took his kiddos fishing for the first time on HIS birthday. It was quite the experience! ;)
