Herky on Parade 1-20

In 2004, 75 Herky statues, each elaborate and unique, were put up around the Iowa City area and became known as Herky on Parade. They were then auctioned off to support United Way of Johnson and Washington counties. As of early May, 83 new fiberglass Herky statues have been turned into works of art to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Herky on Parade. This public art project is a collaboration between the University of Iowa, the city of Iowa City/Coralville, and the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

We LOVE seeing the Herky statues around town on our daily outings! Because there are 83 of them, we run into them quite frequently! At each statue, we are amazed at the area artists' workmanship and creativity! We have made it our mission to make it to all 83 statues. We have made it to 20 of them so far, so here they are!

Contrary to what some of these pictures show, Jace actually LOVES the Herky statues! But apparently, he likes food more... it was getting very close to lunch time AND it was pretty hot this day! I was a mean mom and was like, "we are going to get this picture whether you like it or not!" I said it was our mission to get a picture with both kids at each Herky...not that they were going to be GOOD pictures! haha! These will be fun to look back on some day! ;)
