Our good friends, Meredith, Charlie, and Emily introduced us to the Devonian Fossil Gorge near the Coraville Dam. This attraction was created by the flood of 1993 when the floodwaters topped the emergency spillway and further expanded after it happened again during the flood of 2008. The water washed away tons of soil, trees, and road as well. When the water receded, the 375-million-year-old fossilized Devonian ocean floor was revealed. The kids had the best time climbing rocks, hopping over puddles, looking for fossils, and literally getting stuck in the mud!
